WORD PROBLEM… HELP PLEASE?

Malissa Asked: WORD PROBLEM… HELP PLEASE?

Jimmy is a partner in an Internet-based coffee supplier. The company offers gourmet coffee beans for $11 per pound and regular coffee beans for $6 per pound. Jimmy is creating a medium-price product that will sell for $8 per pound. The first thing to go into the mixing bin was 12 pounds of the gourmet beans. How many pounds of the less expensive regular beans should be added?

11*12 + 6R = 8(12 + R)
132 + 6R = 96 + 8R
R = 18 lbs of regular

Jimmy uses n lb of the $6 beans.

(12 x 11) + (n x 6) = (12+ n) x 8

132 + 6n = 96 + 8n

2n = 36

n = 18
