How can I enhance the coffee in my office?

Question by Mirza Hakimi: How can I enhance the coffee in my office?
In our small office environment, we use an average coffee machine, with supermarket coffee, and some flavored creams and sugar. Nothing extraordinary. We all drink it. What can we do to diversify, and create a sense of “new” with our daily routine?

Best answer:

Answer by happykat

You get different blends at the supermarket. Ones that are already packed and ones that you can choose and grind.

For each day of the week (Mon-Fri), why don’t you have a flavor/blend for each day?! (There’s the ‘french roast’, ‘colombian roast’, ‘irish cream’ and so on…), So each day everyone can look forward to something different. If you do like this idea, ask the rest of them in the office, take a vote on it and go buy nice flavors. Make sure to accommodate everyone 🙂

What is added or removed from cheap coffee that it makes me pee so much?

Question by Christ is Life: What is added or removed from cheap coffee that it makes me pee so much?
I grind my own beans and use a French press, so there’s more oil and higher quality; it doesn’t make me pee more than normal. However, any time I drink the Folgers at work, one cup makes me have to go two or three times. Is it the lack of oil from it being filtered or do they add cheap fillers that have something to do with it?

Best answer:

Answer by Richard Hoffman
Caffeine has two major effects on the human body. One, it acts as a stimulant, ramping up heart rate, dilating blood vessels, etc. Two, it acts as a diuretic, causing the kidneys to put more water into the urine than normal, filling the bladder faster. Folgers does this more so because of the amount of water in the blend. Cheaper the coffee the less oil in it to keep it from passing faster.

How do you make the perfect cup of black coffee?

Question by Be healthy, be happy: How do you make the perfect cup of black coffee?
I like my coffee black, without sugar, creamer or anything else. But how can I make good black coffee using instant coffee. I don’t have a coffee machine or anything, not even a coffee pot. Can you give me step by step instructions?

Thanks
I do have arabic ground coffee, but that’s a different thing! It’s done in a different way and has a different taste. I’m talking about a normal coffee here that we drink in the morning, not a cup of Turkish coffee.

“Perfect” and “instant” to me are pretty much a contradiction in terms. Get a little french press pot and real ground arabica coffee. You won’t regret it.

How to use powdered creamer in one’s coffee?

Question by Anthony T: How to use powdered creamer in one’s coffee?
I have Nestle Coffee Mate French vanilla powdered creamer. Do I just add the creamer in lieu of milk and sugar, just milk, just sugar, or do I add creamer, milk, and sugar to my coffee? I understand that it’s really my choice to do what I wish with my coffee, but I would like to know what the powdered creamer actually replaces.

Best answer:

Answer by Timid Women Rarely Make History
You can add the creamer directly to your coffee. It’s just a dehydrated version of the liquid. It has a longer shelf life.

What is it about the more expensive coffee makers that make your coffee taste better?

Question by The victorious reign: What is it about the more expensive coffee makers that make your coffee taste better?
i noticed a big difference when i upgraded my coffee maker to a more expensive one. I was wondering other then the price whats the difference that makes the coffee taste. like how it brews or something mechanical in the machine.
yeah thats how i do it to.

Best answer:

Answer by ♥ Uwish ♥
I think it has to do with how it brews the coffee.

I have a middle grad coffee maker and ther is an “Aroma” button on it. I always use this option, it takes a little longer to brew but it extracts more flavor from the grounds making the coffee more stronger and tastier

Water with some white vinegar (I usually do 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar), run that through your coffee maker, then do just water a few times.
That is usually the way people clean their coffee makers

I had the same problem until I bought a Cuisinart Coffee Maker. It gets every granule in the filter while brewing. I love it, because I love coffee. I drink it black, and want to drink a fresh, bold tasting cup of coffee – not colored water.

How can I distinguish a good coffee from a bad one?

Question by Sören: How can I distinguish a good coffee from a bad one?
Which elements can help me?

Best answer:

Answer by leisure j
You are a better judge of good coffee than you might think. If you like it, it’s a good coffee. If you don’t like it, it’s a bad coffee. Your opinion is the determining factor for yourself.

Personally, I enjoy a darker coffee with a bold flavor, not too bitter.

Q&A: What determines the price of coffee beans and ground coffee?

Question by mmo: What determines the price of coffee beans and ground coffee?
I just want to know why are some coffee brands more expensive than the other?

Best answer:

Answer by Amanda
More things go into the price of coffee than I can list.

1. Cost of production – it costs money to fertilize, prune, and generally take care of coffee trees, let alone the costs of harvesting the coffee and processing it until it’s stable enough to send to market. These costs alone are about US$ 1/lb, and that’s with coffee pickers paid less than sweatshop workers.

2. Cost of transportation – not as much as it used to be, but it’s tricky getting coffee from some mountainside finca over bad/nonexistent roads to a major port (which is probably in a climate that does coffee no good). Then the coffee exporter whom the coffee was sold to needs to get in touch with a coffee importer and send it off (each taking a cut of course).

3. Cost of roasting – green coffee does not make a very tasty beverage; it needs to be roasted first to turn it into the coffee we drink, which of course costs some for the fuel and some for the weight loss in roasting.

4. Cost of distribution – the now-fragile roasted coffee needs to be distributed to thousands of retail stores, each of which needs to mark up the coffee to keep the store in business.

And that’s without the costs of branding, advertising, corporate administration, and doubtless many other costs of which I am unaware.

To sum up:

1. Coffee bean prices are mostly determined by supply and demand; there’s an active coffee futures market that will tell you how much a pound of ordinary unroasted coffee goes for right now, with adjustments for high-average and low quality.

2. Ground coffee has a lot of other costs associated with it.

3. Some coffee brands take a higher markup; others just use better, more expensive coffee beans.

What is a good espresso or coffee machine to buy?

Question by dkeel76: What is a good espresso or coffee machine to buy?
I like Cafe Bustelo and other Latin coffees, and I also tend to like heartier European coffees. I need something that can make good coffee, even if i only want one cup at a time (I live alone). And I’d prefer to spend less than a couple hundred dollars.

Answer by jeffp

You can absolutely get a quality espresso or coffee machine for under $ 200. It will be a little harder to find a good espresso machine for that price, but you can pick one up on eBay at about 1/2 of the going retail price.

Here are a few machines I would recommend in your price range:

Braun Tassimo
Brews single cups of espresso, coffee, and tea. Very well reviewed and an amazing value in an espresso/coffee machine. Can be purchased (new and used) on eBay for around $ 100.

Gaggia Evolution
Great espresso machine for the money and brews fantastic espresso. Gaggia has a well-deserved reputation as a great entry level machine. Can be purchased new for $ 300 or on eBay for around $ 180.

Hope that helps…check out the site below to find great deals on the above machines and many other espresso machines!
